What is the story behind the ONI logo?

The ONI is a mythological demon from Japanese folklore. Considered to be wrathful and uncontrollable, ONI were believed to be the reincarnation of wicked people. Often depicted wearing loincloths and carrying iron clubs called kanabō, the expression “oni with an iron club” (鬼に金棒, oni-ni-kanabō), means to be invincible or undefeatable.

ONI co-founder and breeder Nick Handler says, “I named the brand ONI because of the folklore surrounding the creature. Representing something unstoppable, I felt “ONI” was perfect for the brand. My lifelong love of Japanese art and culture was my source of inspiration, since many of the competing brands lacked a clear aesthetic. I wanted to differentiate ONI from the pack.”

About ONI

ONI is connoisseur-level cannabis from the people who created the award-winning, flavorful Tropicanna Cookies and Papaya varietals. Much like a rare wine, ONI is created by people that have devoted their lives to the craft and helped shape the traditional market.

ONI’s cultivation team consists of legacy growers, steeped in tradition, who are stewards of strain selection. From hunting for unique phenotypes to breeding new genetics, cultivating, drying, curing and trimming, the ONI team is highly experienced and focused on excellence. ONI is a cult brand that operated in the legacy market for years, creating coveted genetics, collectible seeds and phenomenal hash rosin. Pioneering the productionof high-quality solventless hash, ONI has bred varietals specifically adapted to hash production in order to protect trichome integrity and optimize the potency of the cannabinoids continued within.

ONI is not a large-scale, MSO brand. We will only get so big; and we will always have limited-release products that sell out.
